James Dondero has always gone his own way & never looked back but is this what has led to him being as successful as he is now?
Well, he thinks that might be a part of it. He came of age in the suburbs of Richmond & was adept at academics from a young age. This is what led to him finishing as the valedictorian of his high school class & having offers from some of the top schools in the world.
But in the end, James Dondero opted to stay local & enroll at UVA in the autumn of 1980. He was not sure what type of field he wanted to go into but he was determined to find his passion as he navigated his college career. As part of his curriculum, he was forced to take classes on finance & that’s when he fell in love with the subject.
So, after majoring in it & finishing in the top ten of his class, he went on to J P Morgan where he learned everything, Dondero needed to know to be the best analyst in the business. After a year with them, he went on to American express where he served as their newest analyst. James Dondero excelled in this role & even got promoted to portfolio manager after a few years but he knew he was destined for greater things. See this page for more information.
So, he left & took a job at PL where he served as the CIO for five years. He generated a lot of revenue & even helped to expand the business but soon left, and he launched Highland Capital Management, a business dedicated to helping people stand on their own two feet financially. He has since been named a member of beta alpha psi and beta gamma sigma. He now lives in Dallas, Texas.
